NY MODIFIEDS HO SCALE DIE-CAST SLOT CAR CONVERSION KITS.
HO Scale Modified Conversion Kit – HO Scale Drag Racing Conversion Kit
Modified Legends Nutmeg Ertl – Drag Racing – Hot Wheels – 1/64 Scale Die-Cast – Johnny Lightning
We are offering a nymodifieds.com simple conversion kit to mount 1/64 die-cast static models and toys on an HO scale slot car chassis – Currently available in two styles, one for oval track modifeds, and one for drag racers!
Sometimes this happens. I built up a few of these, local racers saw them and really liked them, and they wanted to build up similar HO slot cars for themselves. They liked the fussy brackets, and the threaded inserts that made it easier to put them together. So I created some 'kits' and I am offering these to other racers/builders who want to get in on the fun.
Basically it is a complete kit in the bag with some quality built in, so it should make these conversions a bit easier to put together.
These kits are made to fit the inexpensive, very common Aurora, Auto World, 4-gear chassis. Match that chassis with the inexpensive, common 'Hot Wheels' type car; already painted, decaled, and chromed, and you can easily put together a great looking *scale appearing car* that is really affordable.
There have been countless die cast model cars made over the last 50 years or so, with so many varied and unusual subjets, that availlable bodies and subjects will not be a problem to find. These toys can be found 'used' all over the place (you probably have a box of them already somewhere) So – Yes the possibility of grabbing a $1 body makes it even more fun to put these together.
And no, they aren't that slow or handle that poorly. The bodies are metal, but the modern motors, tires, and magnets allow these things to move right along – and of course they get matched against other die cast conversions. The world of body possibilities and the scale appearance just can't be beat.
HO-SCALE DRAG RACING DIE-CAST CONVERSION KIT.
The Drag Car Conversions are really appealing. These things just look awesome with the "Pro-Street", "Pro-Stock" look, running tucked-in slicks with just the right amont of rake that you dial in using the big and littles straight from the AW 4-gear chassis. Plus - The kit comes with *adjustabe wheelie bars* so you can set up your car like a Pro-Mod, top fuel dragster, or just a real fast street car, and of course the spring-steel wheelie bars function great on the track.
The wheelie bars can be trimmed to the desired length, and the spring-steel is thin enough that it can be bent if need be, for adjusting the distance from the wheelie wheels to the track surface to fine tune your take-off. Also all the HO scale die-cast conversion kits use mounting posts with machine thread brass inserts and corresponding machine screws – you can put an HO body on, and take it off, thousands of times, and the threads wil never wear out.
Basically it is a complete kit in the bag with some quality built in, so it should make these conversions a bit easier to put together.
– In real life - I used to own a 1970 Rebel Machine (390 four-speed), and when I saw this Johnny Lightning car – I just had to have it as a slot car – really pleased with this toy – and even though I am a "1/24" racer, I will probably be building up a few more die-cast conversions. They don't take up a lot of room, they are inexpensive, and they really don't eat much –

HO scale drag racers and builders should like these. More modern 1/64 die-casts now include M2, Johnny Lightning and others, that are all a little bit higher-end with regard to detail – more detail and higher quality than the Matchbox and Hot Wheels of the late 60s, 70s. These upscale 1/64 die-casts cater more to collector subjects, and while more than $1, are still priced low for what you get. A bunch of these detailed muscle cars would be a perfect way to fill up the staging lanes at a scale drag meet.
HO-SCALE VINTAGE MODIFIED DIE-CAST CONVERSION KIT.
These Nutmeg Ertl vintage coupes were really so cool when they came out in the 90s. I think it was the first time I saw a factory built toy or model specifically created for the local track heroes that I had enjoyed watching as a kid at Islip Speedway and around NY back in the late 60s, and 70s.
When adapting the die-cast Coupe, I felt the 4-gear wheelbase was just a tad short - and in HO scale, one or two millimeters can make a difference in the way a car sits. Also I had to have the giant slicks on the front - one of the signatures of these 'golden age' asphalt modifieds was the impossibly wide sticky tires on all four corners - they just made these old Coupes look "tough".
So I created an adaptor-extender to move the front axle forward and up a bit to accommodate the relocated front slicks. The fronts are just a set of back wheels/tires from the 4-gear. I included axles and spacers but left out the front runner wheels/tires since lots of guys need to run their "own setup" – some high-end wheels are trued better, and compounds vary, etc.
Anyway – here is the Bugs Stevens 'Wood Chopper Special" die-cast converted to the 4-gear chassis. Details from the die-cast like the nerfs, and headers will be added back in, but this is how it basically lays out. I think it looks surprisingly in scale and the stance just says it is ready to hit the short tracks on a Saturday night!

These are perfect for HO scale oval track vintage modified racers and builders. The 1/64 Nutmeg Ertl Vintage Modifieds are still out there (you may even have some yourself) – Sometimes you can pick them up inexpensively in lots, they can be purchased at shows and of course online. A group of these die-cast conversions would look fantastic fighting it out on the scale oval -
CUSTOMER BUILT: FIELD OF TEN (10) VINTAGE MODIFIED COUPES –
This group has put together ten (10) vintage modifieds so far, and they run them on the oval! The races are very close with the diecast Modifieds.
I really like seeing these replicas running in HO scale.
Ole' Blue, Evans, Jarzombek, the Woodchopper Special - "Modified Legends" that make for great subjects to race against each other!
More to come of course. I expect to add new brackets to accommodate another chassis or two – let me know if you would like to see something made up.
As always, let me know whatever you need or if you have any questions.
